Traveling by Freighter to 2004 RI Convention in Osaka, Japan This web site was established so that we could follow along with Ron & Cindy on their journey from Oakland to Osaka and other locations in Japan and then back to Oakland, a journey of approximately 40 days. Ron plans to write about life on a freighter, his thoughts on several Rotary related subjects, the International Rotary Convention in Osaka and other items. Ron is a great writer so count on very interesting updates. Ron's emails are sent from the ship via satellite to the shipping company's headquarters in Rostock, Germany. The emails are then sent on to Saratoga where they are placed in web page format and uploaded to the District 5170 server located at Peet's Coffee in Emeryville. Our goal is to provide daily updates from the ship as well as from Japan. Success in sending emails from the ship is dependent on satellite transmission, weather and most importantly, the Captain's permission.
