The officers of the ship are very interested in sharing information
about their area of responsibility.
On
the 12th we had a tour of the engine room by the Chief Engineer. At
the entrance to the engine room one is impressed how clean the area
is.
In the next Picture you see Stefan, the Chief Engineer Reinhard Kassburg,
2nd Engineer Jurg Muller, and me in the Heart of the Ship which is the
control area of the engine room.
The engine room from top to bottom is about 5 stories high. Whenever
they are in port for more than 12 hours they change a piston and then
overhaul the removed piston so that they could put it in the next cylinder
at the next long stop. The third picture is the main part of the engine.
The fourth picture is looking down the turning shaft toward the back
of the ship where the propeller is located, outside of course. At the
back of the ship you can see Ron and the Chief Engineer looking to see
if the propeller of the can be seen.
The last picture is the beautiful view almost at the water level looking
to where we have been.
The rest of the 2 days was spent reading, writing, discussing, and
napping as we get closer to home.
Tomorrow since we have already crossed the International Dateline we
will experience the 13th twice. The good news is that it is a Sunday
so we will have Ice Cream. You see Sunday is ice cream day and not a
day one wants to throw away or even better it is a day one can have
twice.
We are looking forward as we get closer to seeing you all
Saying goodby from the M/V Penang Senator.
See you tomorrow on the web site.
