We are back on the ship and today’s highlight activity was a
safety orientation by the third officer, Andreas Kocziolek. The exciting
part of the orientation was that we got to sit in the life boat. He
showed us where they stowed rations and water. We learned how to start
the boat and how we have to sit and fasten a safety belt so we don’t
kunk our head when rocking in the water or when the boat gets dropped
into the water. If we have to abandon ship we were reminded that we
should be dressed in warm clothes such as long sleeve shirts, long pants,
and shoes. If this happens we wonder if we should take our laptop?
In the interest of Building Bridges we are having long conversations
with our graduate student passenger who has taken a leave of absence
from being the Mergers and Acquisitions person for the EON Conglomerate.
Our new friend is trying to understand the USA. He is reading Sea Wolf
by Jack London as a way of experiencing sea going life while experiencing
sea going life.
We have been talking about Rotary to him and it seems that Rotary Public
Relations in Munich needs to really step up to the plate. Stefan knew
all about Polio eradication, even knew that there were only a few countries
left and the slight setback but had no idea that Rotary had anything
to do with it. We were impressed that he knew as much as he did but
as far as he was concerned the World Health Organization was the only
group involved.
We spent the rest of the day doing general reading, writing, discussing,
napping, and visiting the bridge.
We were reflecting on our visit to Japan and we remembered the fun
we had way back at the 5170 party at the beginning of the Convention
in Osaka. We remembered hearing a lot about continuity of leadership
at the larger sessions as we witnessed the passing of the baton for
the Dublin Rotary club. Here we see Tom and Peggy Hayhurst receiving
the baton of leadership from Rich and Sharon Bennett.
We also remembered some of the fun we had as we saw Tom Schmitz not
in a Sergeant at arms uniform having fun with his wife Mary.
We are looking forward to seeing you all.
Saying goodbye from the M/V Penang Senator.
See you tomorrow on the web site.
