Monday May 10, 2004 - Departure from Oakland

Ron & Cindy arrived at the Oakland Hanjin Terminal early today to see their ship engaged in heavy gantry loading. They soon learned that their departure was delayed until early evening. So it was off to meet the Captain and see their cabin which was a 6 story climb up as there are no elevators on the ship.

They were very pleased to see their 3 room cabin consisting of a living room with a great view, bedroom, and bath. They also have a TV, VCR, and CD player at their disposal. This is a much larger cabin that they had on their freighter trip to Peru in 2000.

After unpacking, it was off to breakfast in Jack London Square at the Butter Cup Café, meeting place of the Oakland Sunrise Club.

One of Ron's first priorities is gaining the Captain's permission to send emails as they cross the Pacific.
